Film makers Sanjay LeelaBhansali attacked :: so shocking

Distress & distraught,

Fumbling and faltering,

Mumbling and whispering,

Furious at changing cinema,

Silenced by assault,

Silence is vigor,

Raging, raging and thundering!

It is shocking to hear of lambasting on the shooting set of film “Padmavati” being directed by the great director Sanjal Leela Bhansali yesterday on 27/01/2017. Vandalism on the set does not only stops activists of Karni Sena but they also slap senior film maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. He was brutally assaulted by the conservative-casteist-Hindu outfits, showing their militant fists upon Films and Film Makers.

On the pretext of distortion of blood-soaked History, these Hindu militants vandalized Camera, lights, sound equipment and the sets, creating ruckus and fear among participating large unit of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Production. This barbarity of Hindu militants is shocking and government must take stock of the humiliating incidents against film fraternity that keeps happening.

The same outfit had threatened Ashutosh Gowarikar’s film “JODHA -AKBAR” that is the true – history. At the intense moment of love between young married couple, what should be depiction, one can sense too. This film “ Jodha- Akbar” was not released.

Is this not terrorism in the name of protecting the feudal Hindu culture? History reveals a number of marital relations between king Akbar and princesses of Hindu king and Muslim king of Rajsthan and elsewhere in India. This is the truth of the time and one can historically trace such persons belonging to such relations.

The film”Padmavati” depicts the love story of Prince Ratan Singh and his wife Nagmati and another wife Padmini from Srilanka. This is a historically an amor ( love) film. Prince Ratan Singh and Srilankan princess Padmini love to each other. What should be visual between them? This is a complete Film maker’s prerogative to visualize romance scenes between two protagonists.

Alauddin Khil jee is villain in this film.He is badly fascinated to the beauty of queen Padmini, badly eared by Ratan Singh’s Hindu court man.

Malik Mohmmad Jayasi, the great Sufi poet of the time, has jotted down in Awadhi language in lyrical forms and it is a popular epic in Hindi literature. Jayasi takes these four characters King Ratan Singh, Queen Nagmati, Queen Padmini and Alauddin Khiljee to the world of spiritualism and the great poet metaphorizes them.

Historical facts, Jayasi’s sufi love and fictional texts and the rambling mind of Film maker will churn and the film will be ready for screening. Before completing the film, how can one be so judgmental that Film is being shot in bad light of historical distortion? This is a premeditated incident just before elections in five states.

Many films have been made on Hitlers in Germany against and pro but Germans do not create such vandalism on the shooting sets. The film “Gladiator” can be a blood-thirsty-game for barbarous Roman emperor but it shows as to how the rebellious slaves were forced to play the game in which either they would assassinate the rivals or vice-versa.

Entire Indians who love art, cinema, culture and pluralism of Indian society, are shocked on cowardice attack of Hindu militants on such a fabulous and aesthetic film maker Mr. Sanjay Leela Bhansali and we condemn it. I am aware of few lumpens who will come to support it shamelessly in the name of their prideful history, dabbling in various books, archives and few historical facts, are very much there in the various parts of India in terms of paintings, art, castles. They are treasures of History that keep flowing from history to present. Bhansali’s film will also be a treasure for world Cinema. The historical love-story is being screened on celluloid, is the matter of joy.

In 2008, Bhansali staged the opera Padmavati, an adaption of the 1923 ballet written by Albert Roussel. The first show premiered in Paris.Bhansali had got fifteen minutes standing ovation for 15 minutes. That was the moment of pride for all of Indians. Such a diamond person is being hecled on his film set by few hooligans. Bhansali was showcasing their historical heritage in beautiful cinematic frames but they will prevent because their attack has been designed to mushroom hatred.

This is not good time for art, culture and literature.
