"बॉम्बे वेलवेट" में क्या अनुराग कश्यप मखमली बन गए !!

फिल्म "बॉम्बे वेलवेट " नवजात आज़ाद भारत में पूँजीवाद और अपराध की  दोस्ती और सहमेल से सामंती  पूँजीवाद "लूम्पेन कैपिटलिज्म" में बदलने की कथा कह जाती है !  इस फिल्म के ज़रिये नवजात भारत का लोकतंत्र पूँजीवाद का गुलाम बनता चला जाता है और उसी प्रारूप में आज का लोकतंत्र  है जिसे दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा लोकतंत्र कहा जाता है ! हास्यप्रद है लेकिन निर्दैशक अनुराग कश्यप इसे बखूबी समझ लेते हैं और  फिल्म शुरू होती है ! "बॉम्बे वेलवेट " में खूबसूरत तथ्य को भी निर्देशक अनुराग ने दर्शाने की कोशिश की है कि बॉम्बे में दौलत हवा की रफ़्तार से भी ज़्यादा  बहती है या दौड़ती है !

 अमीर कैजाद खम्बाटा, पत्रकार जिमी मिस्त्री , रोमी पटेल , पुलिस, राजनीतिज्ञ और सड़क छाप अपराधी जोंनी बलराज का अपराध आदि सबकुछ  इस फिल्म के कथानक को आगे बढ़ाते रहते हैं  और ये तय हो जाता है कि  बॉम्बे सपनों का महानगर  ज़रूर है लेकिन स्वप्नदर्शी राज्य नहीं करता! सपनो का सौदागर  सपने देखनेवाले इंसानों को मज़बूर कर उसके सपनों में अपना हिस्सा बना लेते हैं ! अनुराग कश्यप ने बहुत बड़े  विषय को सिनेमा के परदे पर सच में वेलवेट की तरह, मुलायम मखमल  की तरह चलने देते हैं जो उनका सिनेमा के प्रति पैशन या रोमांस है और इसकी सराहना करना  चाहिए !


 मखमली वेलवेट की तरह कथानक का प्रवाह है , जो बहती तो है , दर्शक को लेकर चलती तो है लेकिन उस सरल प्रवाह में भूचाल पैदा नहीं होता !  नए उभरते  बॉम्बे शहर का  मूविंग दस्तावेज़ दर्शक के मन में  ज़्यादा हलचल  पैदा नहीं कर पाती है !  फिर भी अनुराग कश्यप और उनकी फिल्म बॉम्बे  वेलवेट की चर्चा हो रही है , कुछ स्वस्थ आलोचना के साथ तो कुछ बेमानी के साथ ! उनपर जो आरोप है, उसे ही रेखांकित करने का प्रयास है लेकिन इन आरोपों के परे निर्देशक अनुराग कश्यप अपनी बातें कई फिल्मों में  कह गए हैं और ये यहाँ भी कह देते हैं !

क्या कथानक और फॉमलिजम के बीच के अन्तः संबंधों के बीच संतुलन बिगड़ गया ? कौन किस पर भारी पड़ गया? क्या कथ्य,रूप और शैली के बीच का पुल ठीक से नहीं बन पाया ? निर्देशक अनुराग कश्यप पर अधिकांश आलोचक ऐसा ही आरोप लगा रहे हैं कि इस फिल्म के निर्माण के दौरान उनकी स्थापित फिल्म बनाने के  दृष्टिकोण में हस्तांतरण हुआ ! अनुराग अपनी फिल्मों में कंटेंट / कथ्य से फिल्म के रूप को  गढ़ते रहे हैं या फिल्म का रूप स्वयं निर्मित हो जाता है !


 लेकिन इस फिल्म में वो रूपवाद का शिकार हो गए और भाषा की संरचना या syntax  पर भी रूप और शैली का आरोपण है ! कुछ तो प्रभाव है ! फिल्म का निर्माण श्रीलंका में हुआ और लाज़मी है कि आज़ाद भारत के तुरंत बाद का बोम्बे का निर्माण हुआ और कला-निर्देशक के भव्य  सेट ने बोम्बे को बहुत ही खूबसूरती से चित्रित किया ! शायद  बहुत समय पुराने  बोम्बे को बनाने में निर्देशक का ध्यान उसमें रमा रहा ! १९५०-६० के दशक का भव्य बॉम्बे अपनी विराटता में कथा के प्रवाह को अवरुद्ध करती है ! इस प्रक्रिया में अनुराग कश्यप जी कही रूपवादी तो नहीं हो गए ? शायद ये   एक संभावना दीखती है ! मुझे लगता है कि नवजात भारत का बोम्बे,  वेलवेट की तरह न होकर, कुछ खुरदरा होता तो शायद फिल्म दर्शक को उद्दिग्न , उत्तेजित , सकते में  ला पाती   या रोमांस की गुदगुदी या अपराध की अंधी गलियों को दर्शक सिर्फ देखते हैं , उनसे जुड़ नहीं पाते !


अनुराग कश्यप एक बड़े फिल्म निर्देशक हैं , उनकी फिल्मों में कंटेंट ही फॉर्म को जन्म दे देता है! फिर भी ये फिल्म इस देश के अंदर आवारा पूँजीवाद का दस्तावेज़ तो बन ही गयी है !

The film states the history of society of world.Therefore, film must be made sensitive , pertinent to on-going situations of the society. The film maker is a sociologist too, who senses the very structure of society and crafts the characters in given milieu that becomes the locations , set-up .

The great director Guru Dutt had made such an awesome film that has been calibrated as "ALL-TIME GREATEST FILMS" by various film institutes and magazines of the world. The film " PYAASA" has been made in 1957 in "Black & White" era of developing Indian Cinema, just ten years after Indian Independence.

Indian society is now free with developing democracy in despotic state of Feudalism where love of woman  is confined as commodity or love kneels down because of male domination or because of security of life. Whatever the society was prevailing, has truly been canvassed on moving screen by the characters and director.

Frustration in youth was growing. Society is transitioning towards capitalism, destroying the old-aged profession, replacing them with Industrialisation of India. In such a situation, art becomes a means of earning. The poetry and other forms of art and the artists are made the part of the "World of sale and purchase".

The film "PYAASA" denotes such a society that is leading towards catastrophe that blows all human emotions and relations. Guru Dutt is not only the director but he is also a protagonist of the film along with his two love ladies  Gulabo ( Waheeda Rahman) and Meena( Mala Sinha) .These two women have different characters. Gulabo is a prostitute who has great admiration of the poetry composed by Vijay ( Guru Dutt) and she finally gives her jewellery to Publisher Mr. Gosh  for publishing the poetry of Vijay after  his suicide on Railway Track. Meena was a love lady in college but for her secured and comfortable life, she gets married to a rich man  like Gosh. This heart-wrenching event sharpens his poetry with pathos ,dabbling in love in turmoil water.

The published poetry establishes the failed and struggling poet Vijay who is no more in the world but he is alive in a hospital and gets stunned to hear his piece of poetry on Radio and he gets berserk to say of it to the doctors and nurses and the such a bizarre situation takes him to a mental asylam where he is not recognised as Vijay by his friends Shyam and Gosh( . With the help of his friend Abdul Sattar ( Johny Waker), Vijay flees from Mental asylum and he reaches home where his both bothers do not recognise him as brother. Both the mouth of brothers have been shut by offering share of the profit from the sale of Vijay's poetry.

At  his obituary ( Death memorial Day), Vijay appears on the stage. The publisher Gosh , friends and relatives of poet Vijay is recognised for more temptation. Vijay feels stunned to see these hypocrisy of his brothers and friends.
However, Vijay hates such obnoxious relation in such a growing dog-fight-world where all human emotions are being shattered. At a conclave for his honour , Vijay denounces such relation and tells the world that he is not real Vijay.The crowd gathered get berserk and start pelting upon him.

Shyam who has been friend of poet since childhood, makes Vijay understand but he runs away from there because of mad mob. Vijay is pullled into a hall by Meena who suggests him why he is doing this. He must embrace this fame and he must go away from the hypocrites. Vijay senses Meena, saying that he has no problem with his brothers and friends, he has problem with such a barbarous system that makes the people inhumane.

Vijay moves away with his love lady Gulabo to begin a new life.

Guru Dutt is a transcending film maker and his all the films are too. The film "PYAASA" is still a mirror of struggling poets and artists who get victim of barbarity of system.Indian Society has not so far changed.It is still inhumane with big morphological( outer) changes in various fields of human life but all the developments have made the huge human lives miserable.

There is a question being tabled before the film makers of Bollywood or Indian Cinema as to why such an aesthetic movie is not being produced today.  

The British monthly Film Magazine " SIGHT & SOUND" has rated 160 th films inthe category of "All-Times Greatest Films " in 2002. In 2011  Time Magazine has declared it as one of the top 10 romantic movies of all time. 

S D Burman has composed its music. Music and songs are so pertinent to the scenes of the film.

This film boils pot of neurons in various aspects of life like social, political thought, love and romance.The film "PYAASA" churns the sensitive person to be more creative for society.

I salute to the eminent film maker Guru Dutt.

Film " TANU WEDS MANU RETURNS" : Medicine for married couple

Such an extreme monotony in a marriage relation takes the couple to a bizarre state that compels the two to divorce. The film TUNU WEDS MANU RETURNS" has marvellously been made by the film maker Anand L Rai.

The Kanpur girl Tanu and Delhi boy Manu got married four years ago and settled in London where marriage starts crumbling and they reach medical councillors and Manu feels so upset , that leads to a big mess there. Doctor forcibly puts him in mental asylum. She feels raised when she gets information from her bosom friend Payal who has a baby boy from other, not from her husband. Tanu leaves Manu in mental asylum and reaches Kanpur.

Manu is fed up with his wife's ruthless behaviour and comes back to Delhi where he sends a legal notice to Tanu for divorce but Tanu does not reply but instead an one sided lover lawyer has sent a divorce letter. In Delhi, Manu finds a girl named Kusum from Hariyana who is an athele but she resembles Tanu by face and body. Difference is the Hariyanvi diction. Manu falls in love with her.


The marriage of Doctor Manu and Kusum has various interesting emotional dramas  and the just before the last round around marriage sacred fire, Kusum gets out off this marriage. And old couple Tanu and Manu reunite emotionally.

The film has a series of retro incidents of North India and the previous characters carry forward the film with an entry of new lover Chintu who crushes on Tanu and he reaches Hariyana village with Tanu's parents.

Raja( Jimmy Shergil) gets infuriated with Manu when he comes to know that Doctor Manu( R. Madhwan) is going to get married to Kusum ( Kagna Ranwat).

The obsession of Manu with Kusum shows that she does not love her but she is trying to discover his lost love in resemblance face of Kusum.

Tanu is at storm at the moment of marriage of Manu with Kusum. Manu is moving around fire with brooding thought.The blunt Raja feels so low about Tanu. Both the parents are sad.

But reunification between Tanu and Manu refreshes the mood of all. Kusum befriends with Raja.

Kagna Ranwat is in double roles and both the characters have been portrayed so meticulously and Kangna Ranawat has placed her arty in both roles, has stunned the audiences. As she has astonished by her protagonist role in film "QUEEN" that sketches her acting journey.She  has broken her sadness gesture in her previous films. Kagna is a now versatile Bollywood heroine or she can be termed as a "GREAT ACTOR"

The film is a medicine for the married couples. They must see the films.
Love enlivens the relation always if love happens between the couple irrespective of how marriage takes shape : Love Marriage or Arrange Marriage .

The dialogues of the characters are so chaste in typical Hindi dialect of Hariyanvi and Western UPITTE Hindi.
Film does not leave its grip and audiences are so attached to the screen that progresses the entire incidents so aesthetically.
All the credit goes to director Anand L Rai and actress Kangna Ranawat.

Dil Dhadakne Do

One can not go the way that is dictated.Mistakes happens in such a dictated and dominated life at any moment. The heart throbs for superb life that comes from huge money in such an uneven world that keeps the people in state of insecurity and the elder of the family sense this sense of danger of life and they start dominating their offsprings to shape their lives according to the unsecured  world.

So this is the inherent logic prevailing in the world and that steers human being and the relation among them that starts to last or starts to break. So the human behaviour and bonding between them enhances their relation and at any moment of time, it may cracks down due to wrong decision or due to old aged understanding that is not meeting the challenge of the relation.

 A dog Pluto Mehra philosophises the entire film, stating each character of the film, differentiating the human's from animal world. The dog's voice has been dubbed in the voice of great actor Aamir Khan.


A well-of business family of Mr. Mehra , his wife , his young  married daughter Ayesha and a dog named Pluto gets scattered from dictated, controlled, fossilised, snobbish show-off world on a  cruise on which Kamal Mehra and his wife Neelam Mehra have organised the celebration of their 30th. wedding anniversary that has been crumbling for  years but this is an ideal couple in the eyes of so called socialite world.Son Kabir dos not have any interest in papa's business that is also in a bad shape and nobody is eager ininvest money into it. Mr.Lalit Sood, giant businessman and father of young daughter Noorie Sood alomg with his wife has been invited on to Cruise despite of rough relation. Mr. Sood may be a safety valve to take the sinking business of Mehra if Kabir ( son of Mehra) gets married to Noorie who gets fascinated to a young boy named Rana who is the son of her father's business rival. However, impression goes that Kabir and Rana are in love and Noorie disappears in night and spends with Rana instead of Kabir who has romantic affair with a cruise dance Farah Ali.

Cruise has become cradle to place all the relations on right positions.Ayesha Mehra does not love Manav in her married life. She is a successful business woman and her pix has been published in world's famous magazine " FORBES ". She is on pills while sexual conjugation.In a dense state of tension, she shouts for divorce from Manav, stunning to each other. Sunny Gill joins the anniversary party on Cruise in Egypt. He is well known journalist and has been sent abroad for education by Mehra to keep him away from her daughter Ayesha who was in love with Sunny.


Cruise and the romantic waves of sea enlivens the dormant love of Sunny and Ayesha. Mr.Kamal endorses divorce of his daughter from Manav. He feels enlightened. Manav and his mother both ship out on the way. Farah Ali is fired from the job because she violated rule and had relation with Kabir. Kabir announced that he does not love Noorie and she jumps into sea from rowing Cruise.

The anniversary cruise has made throb to hearts of each guests but particularly to those of each member of Mehra family that is  heading towards the sea-beech. All are heartily laughing despite of a fear of arrest by Police.

Anil Kapoor has been chosen as father's role and he delivers all shades of life and he will play the significant fatherly role as the great actor Amitabh Bachchan. Priyanka Chopra is a matchless in her new intense avatar. Ranveer Singh moves on with this film.

Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy has energised the entire romantic scintillation with their high beat music and songs.

Zoya Akhtar has marvelled in direction and  caught the human emotions on right track that has fascinated the audiences.
